Reunion

Hard to believe my 10 year reunion is already here. It kicks off this Friday and we have activities all day Saturday. Mother nature, please bless us with less humidity/heat on Saturday!

Mustache

I'm really loving mustaches right now for some reason?! So much that I'm planning a mustache party! Stay tuned!!

 

 

Caro Nan

Ever heard or seen a Caro Nan purse? Today on my lunch break I went to an estate sale and was lucky enough to purchase 2 of my own!

 

 

I met Anne (Steele) Riley a couple of years ago through the furniture/booth business. She had a booth @ Antique Mall of the South and would buy furniture and accessories from me to put in her booth, etc etc. Anne is very unique in her own way, which is why I love her! She now has a booth next to mine so I see her quite often.

 

Needless to say, Anne informed me awhile back of these purses and asked had I ever seen one. Her mom (Nancy Steele) was one of the ladies that made these and sold them. Every since finding out that Anne's mother made these & also that Anne is the one that glued the penny on top- I have been determined to buy one! Will I ever use it? Probably not! Its just neat knowing that these were once such a hott item and my good friend had a hand in the business=)

Caro-Nan was based out of Jackson, Mississippi.

Nan= Nancy Steele

The two owned and operated the store in the 60s and manufactured, distributed, and sold their purses with the help of local housewives needing to make some money at the time,were hard working, and who possessed a creative mind set in MS at the time. Nancy’s daughter Anne Steele Riley had the honor of placing the lucky penny on certain bags during the mid 60s, adding a unique touch to the bag before they were hand signed Caro-Nan on the inside and later occasionally on the outside as well. They became very unique and popular must have items and began to circulate to specific shops around the State and then around the Nation.

The two currently still reside in Jackson but have not made purses for some time now. These are truly very unique and timeless pieces. I grew up seeing them around Nancy’s house for ever and always knew that they were quite unique. - RR

My parents were good friends with the Steeles and McDaniels in Jackson. My mom was one of the original painters, before the ladies started the business. We had purses all over the house for years! Mom made one for each of the grown-up women in the family. The purses were each unique and personalized to the owner. It was fun to read the purses, see all the local businesses, and the fantasy businesses with our names on them. I usually got a pet shop or a horse stable :). My sister got a dance studio or art gallery. Great fun - so many memories. Thank you.

Moving on....

I  haven't updated in 4 months (slacker) but have good reasons/excuses! I started a new job a month ago -- previous to that- I worked my tail off to get everything squared away with my last job before leaving....so, .... this left VERY little time for blogging or anything else for that matter

Needless to say-I'm VERY happy with my decision!

I was sitting in a hotel in Georgia a couple months ago-battling the stomach bug (which I had never had before-HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience!). That morning when I got in the shower-I blacked out (dehydrated & didn't know)... I was scared, mad and had 1000 other feelings running through me. So...that evening, bummed that I had 3 days left in that city and feeling super sorry for myself...I got online and typed in "Safety Jobs-Jackson MS".... Needless to say, an add for my current job popped up. I called my husband and told him about it... his response "your job is great for you, hang in there, blah blah blah" So...without hesitation, I hung up and started working on a resume-what did I have to loose?! It was nearly 11pm before I finished my resume and cover letter and by that point I was too nervous to send it. So, the next morning I woke up thinking and praying about it- I took the leap and submitted my resume & cover letter.

 

A couple days later, I get an email about setting up a phone interview-2 weeks after that I had 2 facility interviews (lasting FOUR HOURS each) My hopes were high and they did not disappoint. I accepted my offer and now I'm a Health & Safety Specialist for Ergon @ the corporate office in Flowood. There are 5 of us that do health/safety and we are all assigned different regions. I am currently over asphalt & emulsion plants and my territory is the West coast and East (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Nashville, Savannah GA, Memphis, St Louis, Birmingham....just to name a few) Traveling is less (approximately 25% vs my last job @ nearly 80-85%) and of course I'll have great places to visit too=)

 

If you don't know a thing about Ergon, I highly recommend you educate yourself=) They are an amazing company with so much to offer.
