Bring on Christmas

Enjoyed a night with LOTS of belly laughs with my supper club girls (roughly 10 years strong?!) instead of dirty Santa, we played another fun game - see rules below:

Sweet Nic pepping me up for my procedure this morning.
The morning started rough... I woke up in an yuck mood (poor nic) No coffee or food is seriously the hardest thing for me (and everyone around me!!)  I thought I would be one of the few people in the waiting room for 6:45 am... I was dead wrong. It was packed!!!! But... we were home by 10 and I've been relaxing/dozing every since. Praying to feel the results soon!

Happy Friday!

It's never easy, its never over, it WILL be a fight

Happy Holidays! I have been a bit silent so here is a quick update....

November and December in review.....I turned 35, shopped & danced the night away @ Mistletoe, had an injection in my back, celebrated 10 years with Nic in Quebec, enjoyed a long Thanksgiving break with family, Black Friday shopped with my 2 cousins, I've attended 5 Christmas get togethers (1 more tonight & Sunday night!), sponsored a foster child for Christmas, competed our paper work for "foster to adopt" program (more on that later) and now anxiously waiting to see what 2020 brings. Life is good. Its never easy, its never over and it WILL be a fight. I'm not done.

There are times in life when we all face situations that seem impossible. It's easy to get discouraged and think that things won't ever work out. But the Scripture tells us that God goes before us and makes our crooked places straight. In other words, even though you may not have the connections you need right now, you don't have to worry. God is going before you lining up the right people, arranging the right breaks, and setting up the right opportunities. He is preparing the way for victory!

My back is better. SO much better. But, its not 100%. I still have pain, numbness and limited motion in the right leg. Its frustrating but I AM on the road to a full recovery.

I have my second steroid shot/procedure tomorrow morning @ 6:45! I am not nearly as nervous...actually pretty excited. I've been told that redosing the steroid will decrease the frequency of pain and allow the disc time to heal more. And also told that people who get at least 2 injections get longer lasting relief and the percent that avoid surgery increases a lot. I may not sleep tonight because I'm just so excited (or nervous?!)

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus…"

God tells us that we have what we need right now in order to fulfill our destiny. The moment it become insufficient is the moment that God will give you more. The moment it begins to stop God’s plan for your life is the moment God will intervene on your behalf. Today, be encouraged that you have what you need, and what you need tomorrow is on its way! God is closely watching your life. He is faithful and saying to you : “If it’s ever not enough, you can count on Me. I will always be there to give you more.”

I must admit, I've been pretty overwhelmed. I received such devastating news in September and then screwed my back up trying to get healthy again. I've asked HIM why over and over again. (and he's not answering fast enough!!)

With that said.........I think I speak for all of us...life can be SO overwhelming. It is so easy to focus on the "negative" things and get frustrated thinking that God isn't at work for us.

The holidays can be extra tough for some. I know too many people who are hurting right now. Loneliness, money issues, sickness and/or grief. I fail miserably knowing what to say. I really want to say "I get it and I'm right there with you" but I don't. My pain is different. All of ours is.

I had a friend who just lost his first child a couple ago (3 days before her birth) Today is his birthday and I'm struggling at what I could say to bring a smile to his face.

This week, I've received news of 3 different people going to their heavenly home. 2 family members (my great aunt, Ann Buchanan) and a cousin (Kurt Simoneau) as well as a young, beautiful girl my age that lost her battle with cancer.

You must chose to stand strong in the midst of these difficult situations. Stay positive even when it feels like your whole world is falling apart. Be thankful for another day....we are not promised it.

Friday feels

Sitting at the pain management doctor and feeling a bit overwhelmed & frustrated. The back pain is better but sciatic nerve is being pinched by the herniated disc and driving me CRAZY. For 2 weeks I've been standing at work and sitting only minimally. Sitting makes it worse. Driving is rough  and nothing seems to bring relief except standing up or laying flat!  I am over it.

Fast forward... we leave next Thursday for our anniversary trip and I WILL NOT let this hold me back. I am @ the doctor for my consultation and planning to have an epidural shot Monday and praying for immediate results!
:
God wants to empower and strengthen you to overcome every obstacle in this life. He wants to give you confidence, wisdom and boldness to pursue the dreams and desires in your heart. He wants to give you supernatural insight so that you can be a witness of His goodness. In the Scripture, Peter and John were supernaturally equipped. Everyone around them marveled at their boldness, at their ability. They knew Peter and John didn’t have any formal training. They knew there wasn’t anything special about them. This power and wisdom could have only come from one place—the presence of Jesus. Friend, when you spend time with Jesus, people will see it. You’ll be energized by His anointing and equipped by His grace. That’s why it’s so important to take time every day to be in His presence. No matter where you are, His presence is only a prayer away. Scripture says He is near to all who call upon His name. It says that He inhabits the praises of His people. Make your relationship with Him your number one priority and be empowered by His presence each and every day!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You giving You all that I am. I surrender every area of my life to You and invite You to have Your way in my heart. Empower me with Your love as I daily set my focus on You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Amazing Grace

I have started writing on here 3 or 4 times over the past month but kept putting my phone down thinking .. "I'll do it later"  It takes energy and lately I am lacking much of that.

The communion song at church today was "Amazing Grace." One of my FAVORITE songs. I seriously get tears in my eyes EVERY SINGLE time I hear it. This verse gave me some needed energy:

The Lord hath promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

God promises to bring good out of all the hard areas. Two weeks ago, I woke up on a Monday morning and could barely walk. (No exaggeration) I have never felt so helpless. I was sitting at my chiropractors office @ 7am. (My back had been hurting for 4 weeks but I had been going to the chiropractor and she was adjusting me which gave so much relief.... it was better and the pain had slowly gone away.) She was a bit concerned so she sent me to another doctor for a shot, muscle relaxers and pain meds. We drove home and I literally laid down all day on a heat pad, popping pain meds & muscle relaxers every 6 hours. I was miserable. I have never had so much physical pain in my life.

Tuesday morning I woke up and the condition had worsened. Nic drove me back to the doctor. 2 hours and an MRI later, I was sitting with an orthopedic neauro spine doctor hearing "you have a herniated disc (L5, S1) & 2 degenerative discs. What?! How? How can HE allow this to happen to me? I have had 2 suregeries already this year and I just want my body to feel normal again. I couldn't even think straight. Nic and i just stared at each other. We didn't even know what questions to ask.

Do i have to have surgery? He said that first we would try a steroid dose pack, stronger muscle relaxers and stronger pain meds. I was on "bed rest" basically for 4 days. After lots and lots of prayer, I woke up a new woman on Saturday.

Monday morning I was back at work. I was so excited to be back in a routine!! However, after lunch (2:30 or so), I started feeling sick. I called a good friend/coworker to my office , she brought me a fan, ice packs and called Nic to come get me. I was getting hot quicker than i could shed my clothes. Food poisoning took me out for 2 days.

I remember laying on the bathroom floor (literally begging for Nic to call 911) and asking God "Why? Why? Why?"

The scariest part (Other than literally getting so hot so quickly I thought I was going to pass out) was the doctor had told me that coughing, sneezing and laughing can literally cause someone to throw a disc (similar to what I was dealing with) and here I am throwing up and dry heaving. I was terrified but I am here today. Another trial that I walked out of.

Lord if this must be necessary then continue to give me eyes to see as I walk.

A beautiful reminder of his faithfulness (this was our backyard last week, no filter used... isn't it amazing?)

If we knew everything, it wouldn't take faith at all

I have spent the last few weeks pulling away from people, listening to uplifting podcast, reading scripture and trying to be "present" and remain grateful.  I have spent so much time sharing my journey to give others hope, lifting others up who were in the trenches and I realized I needed to spend a little time on me.

The controlled plan I had for my life has died. I can do all the right things but I am not in control. My faith has been challenged. Spiritual healing is eternal and so much more important. For now, God is giving me just enough grace to deal with this circumstance.

The good news is that even on the worse days, I still see his blessings and we always must remember ... God allows our pain to become purpose !

Below I am sharing a story that was recently shared with me.... I love stories like this. I'm not sure that I'll have the same "happy ending" but I am hopeful that something amazing is coming for us soon.... enjoy.....

I have prayed every single day for this moment.  I’ve also wrestled with sharing our personal life on social media, but if our story can give someone out there hope, it will be worth it because I know we are not alone.  If you read on, you will see the miracle is in the details.
Our journey to starting our family hasn’t been easy like most people.  It’s actually been one awful roller coaster ride we have been wanting to get off.  After one year of trying on our own, we were referred to the best fertility doctor in Austin and learned from all our tests that we had “Infertility” and a 1% chance of conceiving without treatments.  So, we did what anyone does with a shitty diagnosis- We fought back.

I never dreamed that at my first visit in that office at just 32-years old, I would learn my eggs were like that of a 40-year old’s for no reason other than “bad luck”.  I never would have thought I would spend month after month over the next 3 years to face 7 fertility treatments, 3 surgeries and 3 miscarriages.  I never would have imagined I would go through IVF and fail at it- 3 times.  IVF is mentally, emotionally, financially, & physically exhausting.  It’s having the strength to walk back into the doctor’s office every other day, failed treatment after failed treatment (feeling like a failure as a woman) for more lab-work and  ultrasounds, giving yourself 3 shots a day, taking hormones, and undergoing a painful procedure for the chance of having a baby.  But as a woman, you do what you have to do to fight for your family. IVF is an overly expensive game of dice that leaves a couple’s hearts broken and lost when it doesn’t give you the child you hoped for.   How could the most expensive, evidence-based scientific treatment not work on me?  I’m healthy. How can I not carry a baby?  The doctor actually sat us down and told us “I’m sorry, you can probably mourn the loss of having a big family, but I can probably get you one child”.  That felt like a knife in my chest.  But we kept fighting and believing one day it would work and God would one day give us a child.

Right after my third IVF and my third pregnancy loss this past April, my mom sat with me and told me “Jess, I know you’re hurting sweetie, but trust that God has a plan for your life.  I really believe God wants to show you He can do it-  I think you’re gonna get twins”.  Even Jake’s mom would tell us all the time to pray and have faith God is going to come through for us.  I would disagree with them, while talking about what the doctor said and reviewed all my failed treatments and explained how I needed to meet God halfway and keep trying.  Two weeks later, my mom passed away suddenly in May and at that point I had lost all strength.  I was devastated and lost.  My mom was my biggest supporter in life and through my fertility struggles.  The thought of going through it without my mom seemed impossible and I was too exhausted to fight anymore.

So, I decided to let go and let God.  So, I prayed. BIG… and I cried a lot and prayed and got down on my knees begging God for a baby.  Begging Him to heal me, asking for a miracle.  This was certainly not my first big prayer, but it was by far my most desperate. I asked Him if He forgot about me- it certainly felt like it.
Well, believe me when I say God will speak to you in many ways if you pay attention, and finally He sent me a long-awaited messenger just two days later.

Jake’s aunt approached me on the 4th of July and told me she knows this is “strange” but she had a Word from God for me.  It took me by surprise because we don’t know one another well, and we have been very private about our fertility struggle.  She told me, “God told me to tell you He didn’t forget about you.  He is going to open your womb this year and you will have a daughter.  She even gave me her name, Hannah, which in Hebrew means “You have been favored by the Lord with a child”.  She gave me the bible verse, Luke 1:45, which says, ”Blessed is she who believes that the Lord’s word to her will be fulfilled”.  She anointed my uterus with oil and prayed over me and I cried like a baby.  You see, I needed to hear back from God.  I was at the lowest point in my life.
So, Jake and I just decided to believe it and we were going to show God our faith that we believed He could do it.  We prayed every night over my belly, “God is faithful, our baby is coming. You will do exceedingly, abundantly more than we can ask or imagine. Thank you, Lord for our baby”.  Our family even started putting baby onesies and pink décor in the room we always imagined would be for our baby.  Showing God our faith.
I tell you the truth, the very next month, I had my FIRST ever natural positive pregnancy test!  I immediately cried and was shaking because how could this be? I only got pregnant with fertility treatments and only had a 1% chance of ever conceiving naturally.  I’ve done the most expensive, evidence-based, scientific medical procedures available and they didn’t work.
But God.
We went in for our sonogram to not only find one heartbeat, but TWO strong healthy heartbeats and TWO babies, conceived naturally!  Twins!?!?   What!?!  Everything so far about this pregnancy has been “perfect” and “measuring beautifully” and well that’s NEVER happened to us before.  How is this possible?

You see, I don’t know what you know about God – but let me tell you He can come down with all His grace with one point of his finger at an impossible situation in your life and handle it.  He can make a way when there is no way.  He has the final say and authority over our lives, not the doctors and not anyone for that matter.  He took that 1% chance and did the impossible-TWICE- and I am committed to thanking and praising God for our answered prayer just as long as I begged Him for it- over and over and over again.  Because these babies are living proof that God does the impossible. That He still performs miracles. That He redeems grief and heartache.  And just when you think He’s finished, He throws in one more extra, surprise miracle for good measure!
To top off the miracle, our doctor told us our 40 week due date is exactly the day of my mother’s birthday.  I know the first thing my mom asked God for when she got to heaven a few short months ago, was if we could please give my daughter & son-in-law a baby.  (How about two?) I know it’s her way of letting me know everything is going to be alright.  I believe with all my heart my mom and God are sending these babies to us and we are forever grateful for these blessings.
I can’t believe I am saying this, but we are going to be parents!  The Smola twins are arriving March-April 2020!

Please feel free to share our story.  1 in 8 couples struggle to have a baby and 1 in 4 have a miscarriage.  But it feels like 1 in a million when it is you. It’s awfully lonely and no one talks about it.  If this story can give one couple hope- then we feel it is worth it.

And then this ...

Open Facebook to this reminder tonight:

Oh friends… we must turn from the deep desire to know all of the reasons and to control all of the outcomes. That knowledge would be a burden, and attempting to control it all will do nothing but entangle us with anxiety and fear.

That’s why God didn’t want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The knowledge it would give them was a burden God never wanted them to carry. And maybe that’s why we don’t have all the answers to our “why” questions. God isn’t trying to be distant or mysterious or hard to understand. He’s being merciful.

We don’t have to know the plan to trust there is a plan. We don’t have to feel good to trust there is good coming. We don’t have to see evidence of changes to trust that it won’t always be this hard.

We just have to close our physical eyes and turn our thoughts to Jesus. Fix our thoughts on Him. Say His Name over and over and over. And know that we can trust our Father’s heart and His plans.

Happy Friday

God has given each of us a gorgeous life ... look up. Don't throw away each moment for lesser things .. practice "presence".

So many of you are texting and calling and I want you to know how much i appreciate your thoughts & prayers. Every single message means SO much. I must sit with this grief and go through the process so I can heal.

My hope is that the  storms of my life can bring encouragement for someone else.

You'll never get through a storm by yourself, we are not designed to. In the middle of a storm, make sure you have the right people beside you. I have lots of them so thank y'all!

My view driving to work this morning

God makes everything beautiful for its own time .. we aren't supposed to see the whole scope of God's work. I'm still fighting so many feelings.... Overwhelmed, scared & confused.

We have our follow call with our doctor on October 1st... which feels like forever away. This trench is a tough one but one day I know I'll be able to look back and say "I'm so glad I didn't know" HE is preparing me for something big and he is protecting me from something I didn't need. Those words don't flow easily but I know they are true.

I'm praying for others in the hopes of getting my focus off my own mess ! Try it !

XOXO

We serve a good God that does allow hurt sometimes

Tears are streaming down my face as I am trying to find the strength to type this devastating update and get this post OVER. WITH. Today isn't good.

Our 3 beautiful embryo did not have a good report. The nurse called us Thursday and told us the test results showed that all 3 were abnormal.  Abnormal means we will not be going back to Denver. Abnormal means they will not be able to transfer any of them into me for a healthy pregnancy.

We don't know what any of this means. Abnormal could mean they have extra chromosomes (like our baby girl did back in April) or maybe they are missing chromosomes. These are the answers we will be waiting to hear from our doctor when he calls for a "re-group."

We had just pulled up to Aideyn's football game Thursday night @ Copiah Academy when the nurse called. We were both speechless, squeezed hands and just sat in my car trying to comprehend everything. How is this happening? Why would HE take all 3 of these babies from us. This was our last IVF attempt and we knew with certainty that it was "the one."  Nic was visibly upset and I was just numb. We thought about turning around and driving home but we made a promise to Aideyn. We stayed, the Flashes won, 14-0 and we got to see Aideyn play in his new jersey with Nic's #63.

Several of you have texted to check on us and/or remind us that you are "praying for the 3 embryo" and it absolutely breaks my heart to have to share the devastating news with you. I know you all want this for us as bad as we want this for us. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. Hang with us. We aren't sure what the journey ahead looks like but we do have faith that God is soon going to reveal something pretty amazing.

Many of you have called, asked to come over and hug our necks or come and just be a shoulder to cry on but I don't think we are ready just yet. I'm personally not in a good place right now. I just need space to exhale & grieve. We woke up early this morning, had coffee and watched Netflix but realized neither of us are very focused. I took the dogs walking and Nic started cutting the yard. When I got back, I started vacuuming the attic (odd, I know) and then found myself sitting on a dusty chair crying again. This is hard. The numbness is wearing off and reality is kicking in.

Fear can paralyze us. It makes the gap between where we are and trusting God seem impossible. But God doesn't want us to stay paralyzed in fear. He has equipped us with comfort and reassurance. Over and over through the bible, he tells us not to fear. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" 1 Peter 5:7

When someone texts "how are you," it is very uncomfortable for me to respond with the truth so just know if you text asking how I am and then never get a reply- I'm grieving the best way I know how and will reach back out when I'm better.

I am so broken right now but my trust is in HIM. I will use this hurt for good. Feelings are indicators, not dictators. Our pain and suffering isn't supposed to hurt us, it is supposed to save us... save us from a life where we are self reliant (separated from God). We sometimes forget how needy we are until we go through pain.

We are to consider it pure joy when we go through trails because the testing of faith develops inside of us. We are all experiencing disappointment every. single. day. We are either trying to heal from a disappointment, dealing with a disappointment or headed to a disappointment.

We are doing everything we can to process all of this- there is a lot of emotion and a lot of pain. Please keep sending prayers up for us!

XOXO

Kelly

True HOPE changes the way you live

We heard from the embryologist on Sunday. We have 3 embryo that matured and grew to blastocyst. How did we go from 15 eggs retrieved to 3 embryo ? I've asked myself the same thing. We want quality and they have assured me that's what we have. These little embryo have been graded as "perfect" so I am certainly happy about that. Now we wait 2-3 weeks for the biopsy results to come back. Of course I hope and pray that God will be merciful and we find out in 3 weeks that those 3 embryo are PERFECTLY HEALTHY and ready for transfer.

A friend of mine sent me this yesterday and her timing couldn't have been better. It's about Hope.

What is biblical hope? It is a confident expectation of a guaranteed result that changes the way you live. It is confident because it is based on the awesome power, love, faithfulness, grace, patience and wisdom of God.

Hope is also an expectation of a guaranteed result. It is being sure that God will do all that he has planned and promised to do.

True hope changes the way you live. When you have hope that is guaranteed, you live with confidence and courage that you would otherwise not have.

My mom gave me this coffee cup back at Christmas (which was about 1 month after our 2nd failed IVF transfer) I love it and I pretty much wash it daily (now that I'm back drinking decaf coffee, yay!)

This morning as I'm running to catch a flight, I hear someone yell my name..... I turn around and there she is.. my sweet friend, Marilyn Witt. I met Marilyn about 5 years ago. She was shopping around my furniture booth and since I happen to be there she asked me questions about a piece I had- next thing I know, I'm decorating her house and enjoying evenings with she and her husband, Bill.

We keep in touch and regularly do lunch together. She is one of a kind and such a dear friend. She recently lost her husband and is navigating life without him for the first time. I've watched my momma go through this and continue to watch her struggle to find her way sometimes. The pain never gets easier, but God gives strength when its needed and you just learn how to deal with it a little better.

Whatever the challenge. God doesn't expect us to handle it. He wants us to hand it over to HIM. He doesn't want us to rally more of our own strength but rely solely on HIS strength. God WILL give us more than we can handle. But he says we can hand it over to Him. He promises he always has good in mind. We must chose to hand it over to HIM. All the things we don't understand. All the things that are so overwhelming. Declare HIS goodness over the situation and BELIEVE he is working on all things for your good and HIS glory.

On my flight this morning, I finished reading "Make Your Bed" by Admiral William H McRaven. Its a must read. It talks about little things that can change your life. Something that really stuck out to me was "hope is the most powerful force in the universe. With hope you can inspire nations to greatness" How powerful?! I loved this.

Also he said "We will all find ourselves neck keep in mud someday. That is the time to sing loudly, to smile broadly, to lift up those around you and give them hope that tomorrow will be a better day"

I had a facility manager one time that had just lost her husband to cancer, her sister was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, her mom had alzheimers, her dad had just been diagnosed with cancer (her parents live in California and she in GA so she couldn't be there with them) , her niece had just been sent to prison and her son's wife walked in and asked for a divorce. She was dealing with SIX different BIG things. She asked me how my mom was doing (my dad just passed) and wanted to know how I was doing. I looked at her with such surprise and asked how she could possible ask how anyone else was doing when she is literally drowning in pain? Her response "you know if we all threw our troubles in a bowl, we would race to get ours back." Its so true.

Life is full of difficult times. But someone out there always has it worse than you do. God wont give you more than you can handle. If you fill your days with pity and sorrowful for the way you have it then life will be long and hard.

Life is what you make of it and you can make it great.

I am in Newell, WV for the night. There is NOTHING to do here but I found a local park and think I'm about to go for a walk.

Please keep the prayers coming. Pray specifically for those 3 embryos. Pray for good test results. And also please pray for my patience.

XOXO

Heidi Ho's birthday

We had the best time celebrating Heidi's birthday. Mom cooked a wonderful steak dinner.

Nic and I haven't seen Aideyn & Lucy in a month so we soaked up EVERY minute. Lucy has so much personality and just giggles and giggles. Aideyn started football 2 weeks ago so that is all he and Nic talked about. Nic brought a bag full of football stuff and they "dressed out" and played football outside @ moms.

The week after Heidi had Lucy, Rob had to go to Ohio for 6 weeks so Nic and I went to Vburg every chance we could. I wake up super early and since my body was used to that, I would wake up to do the 3am feeding and then just hold her in my arms all night staring at her until everyone got up the next morning. LOVE this little blessing.

Although I love seeing how much she changes and trying to determine who she is going to look like, it makes me sad that she can feed herself now. Slow down, Lucy girl!

Lucy LOVES Trudy

Happy Birthday Heidi Ho!!

May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4

We are home 🙌

I woke up Tuesday feeling so good that Nic and I went for coffee (haven't been able to have this in WEEKS...such a a treat!!) and a short walk. Since I had anesthesia, they were pretty specific on my do's and don'ts so we didn't push it.
My "home" for the last 19 days

We had lunch in Denver at a cool little BBQ place, Roamin Buffalo

We visited the Blue Moon Brewery and ended the day @ the Rockies vs Red Sox game 🙌

Our favorite was the "Iced Coffee Blonde" (far left)

We cheered for the Rockies since they were the home team but every time our MSU boy, Mitch Moreland was up to bat or made a good play, we yelled for him too!!

Leaving Denver Wednesday was certainly bittersweet. Colorado grew to feel like home.

I missed home, my routine, my coworkers, my pups and all the other "normal" stuff that I never thought I would miss. But I am SO thankful for the opportunity of a lifetime that I had and I'm already ready to return !!!

Thankful for HIS faithfulness and strength at work in my life today. I choose to consider HIS ability over MY circumstance. I will trust and give praise and honor!

2 more days of waiting ….. please keep us in your prayers!!

National Dog Day 🐶🐶

It has been nearly 3 weeks since I've seen these sweet pups and I miss them terribly. Thankful for the elderly lady that let us adopt Mae from her. She was just what we needed. Mae has been so good for Remi and her little energy makes life fun for Nic and I too.

Mae turns 4 September 25th and Remi turns 11 September 27th

Happy National Dog Day to our favorite little fur balls!

Can't wait to pick these pups up on Friday.

Great are you LORD

I woke up at 5:45 this morning starving. I think its something about knowing I couldn't eat that makes me wake up so anxious and hungry?! Good news is..... I lived and was able to eat crackers and have ginger ale in post op.

I couldn't wait to blog today about how great everything was. Our entire experience today was so wonderful. The pre-op nurse, Amy, was so informative with us and explained how the entire procedure was going to go. She gave us details about who all would come in and meet with me (doctor performing retrieval surgery, OR nurse and anesthesiologist) Everyone came by, as promised, and each explained everything to us again and asked what questions we had. I know this seems basic but I have never been given this type of treatment. I felt like I was the only one in the OR today and I wasn't. I was actually the 6th surgery they had and there was 2 more after me. CCRM has it going on....that's all I can say about that. Their staff is the best of the best.

When we pulled up this morning, we had special parking. We parked in an underground parking garage that we had to be buzzed into. Pretty cool concept because when surgery is over and they roll you out, they roll you straight to your car (and there is nobody out there staring!)

Before the OR nurse rolled me back, Nic and I prayed together and specifically prayed that they would retrieve more eggs than our last IVF cycle. Selfishly we just want as many as my body can make because as we've experienced before, after fertilization, we could end up with less than 1/2 or 1/4 of them left.  Although they do ultrasounds each day and see the follicles, there isn't always an egg in each follicle so they have to guestimate how many they think you'll have. They guesstimated 12 this morning and then I had FIFTEEN (15)  retrieved. Giving HIM all the glory. This is 1 more than we had last year and its 3 more than they expected. 15 is a wonderful # and we are so grateful and still a little giddy.

Fuzzy socks are a must. This is a pair a coworker gave me last year and I like to think they are my good luck charm.

My sweet Nic cheering me on before and after the procedure. No makeup, no moisturizer, no lotions, no perfumes, no jewelry and no food and I'm still smiling. I am so fortunate, without a doubt.

After surgery, they tell you to drink plenty of fluids and eat salty food. The follicles (where the eggs were removed) fill with fluid and you can overstimulate (ovaries get super huge and full of fluid) so eating salty foods and staying hydrated helps. I follow orders well and since I'm so happy to eat and drink again...I AM ON IT!

Post op went well and I was released by 1:00.

Although this trip/journey has changed a little and we had a few hurdles/setbacks, I am thankful. The detours redirected me to something better. Thankful that my plan wasn't HIS plan. If I had my way, I would have had my cycle on 9/9 (like we had expected) and started my stim shots 2 days later. Instead, it was 5 days late and my body had 5 extra days to get ready. I had 5 extra days to spend with my momma and although neither of us knew at time how important that time together was going to be, God knew we both needed it.  We made some of the best memories and had so much fun even during such a frustrating and "unknown time" for me.

Thankful the Lord forced me to let go of the things I wanted most because now I know they were wrong for me. I deserved more. He was teaching me how to be patient because he had better things coming by way. Always, always thankful for his grace, strength and courage.

This journey has never been mine entirely to take and I do not know what is best for me but HE has every detail all planned out.

We will receive a call tomorrow from the embryologist letting us know how many of the 15 eggs fertilized and grew. Then we will get a call next Sunday letting us know how many made it to blastocyst and are ready for testing. We elected to test all of our embryos (this was recommended since our miscarriage showed that Baby Meeks had trisomy 13 (extra chromosome/abnormal embryo ). They will start the testing next Sunday and it will be a 2 week wait. Nobody likes to wait and although I've been working on patience and trusting in HIM, this is a struggle for me.

Isaiah 40:31   but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord

It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

XOXO
