CANADA, eh!

The Whistler trip was AMAZING!!! We accomplished everything we wanted to do. We learned how to ski (surprisingly it went much better than expected!), experienced fine Canadian cuisine & had lots of R & R in the snow covered mountains (and did a little shopping too!)

Our first stop was Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I. LOVED. THIS. PLACE! Not that I did any major shopping but my God, they had EVERYTHING. We stayed @ The Fairmont downtown, and there were stores on literally EVERY corner.  Our hotel itself had Gucci, Louis Vuitton & St John...needless to say, Canadians dress well=)  We arrived around lunch on Sunday so we walked the streets for hours...we did appetizers & drinks @ Cactus Club Cafe.

The best way to  describe Vancouver is New York x 10. The city is super clean and everyone is so friendly (ok...that's where it differs from NYC!)
Of course my food connoisseur Husband researched all the restaurants in Vancouver and Whistler before we went, so... the highlight of our evenings consisted of FOOD FOOD FOOD.

In Vancouver we had dinner at a local seafood restaurant, Joe Fortes'

Monday morning, we did a little sight seeing before departing for Whistler (2 hours N of Vancouver)
I was determined to write something in the snow other than "kelly".....USA seemed fitting!

 Love all this snow!

Off to Whistler...
Breath taking views on our 2 hour ride on the Sea to Sky highway. (Vancouver to Whistler)

When we arrived in Whistler at our resort, we were greeted with lovely hot chocolate. The staff catered to our every need during our entire stay. We highly recommend this place to anyone and (hopefully)  look forward to coming back someday!

Walking between the villages of Blackcomb & Whistler

I'm determined to come back in the summer ...they said there are bear EVERYWHERE!!! (oh yea...and they are friendly)

There are 3 main villages around Whistler..Blackcomb, Whistler Village and Creekside. All 3 have retail stores, restaurants/bars and access to each mountain.

British Columbia is extremely eclectic in ethnic foods. There are Asians, Northern Native Indians, French, British, Australian, American and Canadian influences in the cuisine of this area.  The seafood is all native to the area and SUPER fresh! There is a great importance placed on organic and sustainable foods. (obesity is not a factor in this area!!!)

Some of the culinary treats we tried....

 Alberta beef steak sushi roll-DELISH!
7 house-made sauces that Sidecut is known for. (a steakhouse in our resort) We tried all 7-they were tasty!
Seafood sampler with scallops, salmon, prawns and also steak Diane
Best steak ever, Alberta Beef aged 40 days. Melts IN YO MOUTH.
My first taste of Steelhead trout, I like.
More oysters
 Romantic dinner
The chef sends you cotton candy after the meal?!
Fresh sushi--best sushi I've ever had!
This roll was called "Cupcakes"- sweet potato, avocado, edamame and something else--My favorite!
Poutine (A Canadian dish of french fries, gravy, cheese curds & pork) I didn't care for it!

And just so y'all know....I don't pull out my camera to take all of these pics (yes that would be tacky), I use my camera with the flash OFF-very discrete!

Afternoon Apres (appetizers and drinks after skiing)
 Merlins in Blackcomb
Surprisingly I tried (and loved) a new beer.

Arriving @ Blackcomb Mtn

Snowed everyday (which was wonderful for skiing)-faceshields are a must!

Nic making sure his hands are still there!
Are they the cutest things you've ever seen? I was so amazed how well they can ski!
 Headed up the mountain
About to head down the mtn. I seem to ski MUCH faster than Nic so we rarely were together on the slopes.
 Just a bit cold!
Loved the chair lifts...could have just stayed on these all day!
Here he comes... I waited on Nic at the base of the slopes mostly!

Here is where we got picked up everyday.
The wonderful ski concierge handles the ski's and poles...such a treat!
Look how deep the snow is.

Whistler:
  • Extremely cold weather-colder than normal for Canadians. Temps ranged from single digits to negative teens (in Fahrenheit)
  • It snowed EVERY day which made great skiing conditions. Fresh powder=easier/slower skiing.
  • Food was absolutely AMAZING, beer quite tasty too!

 WE HAD A BALL.
 Shopping..
 Eating smores by the fire...
 Playing in the snow...
 More shopping of course...

 Romantic Dinner by the fire

Vancouver..Like I said...shopping on EVERY corner!
Evening drinks and relaxing in the hot tub (while it snows)
my hair/pony tail froze....Nic loved crunching it?!
So...who wants to go Whistler and when are we going? By far, my favorite place on earth! Oh and PS....everyone there says "eh" and "yea, for sure" (hence the title of this post) Seriously, EVERYONE.
